Leonardo SpA, Italy's largest weapons manufacturer, supplies the Israeli Navy with OTO Melara 76/62 Super Rapid naval guns manufactured through its Oto Melara subsidiary. In 2022, Leonardo's U.S. subsidiary Leonardo DRS merged with Israeli military radar manufacturer RADA, creating a jointly traded company on NASDAQ and the Tel Aviv stock exchange. The Italian government maintains a 30% ownership stake in Leonardo through the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) granted two new licences for the export of trainer aircraft for F-35 sorties and “targeting equipment” to Israel, Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT) can reveal.
