Leonardo S.p.A., an Italian defence contractor partially owned by the Italian government, manufactured the OTO 76/62 Super Rapid naval guns delivered to the Israeli Navy in September 2022, which were subsequently used in attacks on Gaza beginning in October 2023, with the guns ordered in 2016 at an estimated cost of USD 100 million funded by U.S. foreign military aid. According to Israeli military statements, by May 2024 these cannons had become an active component of military operations, capable of firing over 100 rounds per minute with advanced fire control systems for precision targeting.
The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) granted two new licences for the export of trainer aircraft for F-35 sorties and “targeting equipment” to Israel, Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT) can reveal.
